Publication Ethics and Principles

Bookarion Journal of Economics and Finance (BJEF) follows national and international standards for editors and authors, particularly the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), TUBA, and TÜBİTAK. Only articles complying with these standards are published.

1. Editorial and Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process. The Editorial Board, Managing Editor, and Secretary are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of all submissions until publication.

  • Objective Evaluation: Referees are required to provide objective evaluations, avoid personal criticism, and focus solely on the manuscript content.

  • Confidentiality: During the process, only the corresponding author(s) are informed.

  • Final Decision: The final decision on publication rests with the Editorial Board. The journal is not obliged to justify decisions regarding manuscripts that are not accepted.

  • Conflict of Interest: Editors and reviewers must recuse themselves from cases where they have a conflict of interest.

2. Research Ethics: Human Participants

BJSS is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in research involving human participants. This policy aligns with the European Commission guidelines and internationally recognized ethical principles.

2.1. Ethics Approval and Evidence

All research involving data collection from participants—such as questionnaires, interviews, focus groups, or experiments—must comply with the protection of personal data and obtain Ethics Committee Approval.

  • Mandatory Disclosure: Information about the permission (Name of the Board, Date, and Approval Number) must be included in the Method section and on the first or last page of the article.

  • Evidence: If formal approval was not required, authors must demonstrate how ethical and legal standards were met.

2.2. Informed Consent

Informed consent is required whenever data is collected directly from participants. Procedures must address:

  • Aims, methods, and implications of the research.

  • Voluntary participation and the right to withdraw at any time.

  • Guarantees of anonymity, confidentiality, and secure data handling.

2.3. Vulnerable Participants and Privacy

Researchers must justify the inclusion of vulnerable groups (children, refugees, etc.) and demonstrate how risks of harm or coercion are prevented. All data must comply with GDPR or applicable national data protection regulations.

3. Academic Integrity and Misconduct

3.1. Plagiarism and Similarity

BJSS has a zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism and self-plagiarism.

  • Screening: Every submission is screened using iThenticate or Turnitin.

  • Similarity Limit: The maximum acceptable similarity index is 20% (excluding references). High similarity to a single source is grounds for rejection.

3.2. Generative AI Policy

  • Declaration: Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process.

  • Format: A section titled "Declaration of Generative AI in the Writing Process" must be added before the References.

  • Restriction: AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

4. Language and Inclusivity

BJEF requires the use of non-discriminatory and non-stigmatizing language. Descriptions based on ethnicity, age, gender, or disability must follow APA 7th Edition bias-free language guidelines.
